Best Digital Camera Under 200 dollars

bigstock D Man With Digital Camera 4775332 150x150 Best Digital Camera Under 200 dollarsSo what’s the best digital camera under 200 dollars I hear you ask. It depends. I’ll ask you a question. What will you be doing with the camera? Do you want to take simple happy snaps of the kids? Do you want it to be small enough to fit into your pocket? Perhaps you’re a traveler and a large zoom is most important. Whatever your reason, I’m going to show you my reviews so you can determine the best digital camera under 200 dollars that will suit your needs. I’m not a camera “expert” by any means, but I do know what features are important. The best camera in the world isn’t any good if the batteries run out after 30 shots is it?

How to determine the best digital camera under 200 dollars?

I’ll be reviewing a number of cameras with many and varied features. The only constant will be that nothing will cost you more than 200 dollars. I’ll be explaining things such as battery life, maximum memory card capacity, megapixels, zoom length, all the stuff you and I consider important. I won’t overwhelm you with fluff about technical data and specifications that don’t mean anything. Trust me, I don’t know what a lot of those numbers mean either. What I do is I use a camera and test it out in everyday situations. Outdoors, low light, close ups, etc. Once I’ve tried it out, I’ll post a review about it and let you know where to get it at the cheapest price.

Whether you’re an experienced photographer or not, my reviews will save you time and money because I personally test out the cameras before I post a review.

One thing to note here. The cameras that make it onto this site for review have been tested thoroughly and only the best ones will be shown here. Simply, if it’s not here, then either I haven’t reviewed it yet, or I don’t rate it. Cameras can appear to be the same on the surface, but I know enough about them to know that no two are equal.

The best digital camera under 200 dollars – honestly reviewed.

Every couple of days, I’ll post a new review of a camera and give you my absolutely honest opinion of it. There’s nothing worse than reading so called “review” sites that simply re-hash the sales page of the camera, and offer nothing in terms of how it can be used in everyday situations. It can be daunting to go to a camera store and speak to a salesperson if you don’t really know what you want. It’s even more daunting if they don’t know what they’re selling!

So who am I? I’m a regular guy that loves gadgets. I review products online and I’m excited to show you my reviews to help you find the best digital camera under 200.

With the passage of each day newer and more creative technologies take over the older ones and literally overshadow them. It therefore becomes essential for the person to do a fair bit of research so that he or she may reach to a much better conclusion. This is where reading product reviews comes in handy.

Today’s review is based on the Nikon Coolpix S6200. It is a compact camera which provides a 16 mega pixel camera to its users. The weight of the camera is relatively less as compared to the older versions of the Nikon camera series i.e. 160 grams. The built of the camera is sturdy and it surely won’t be damaged that badly in case you drop it accidentally. Other than this it has a 5 way navigational pad for maneuvering and a lot of other keys too that, present on its body, dedicated for different purposes and features of the camera.

The Nikon Coolpix S6200 is purchasable in the market in a variety of different colors themes such as, blue, silver, black, pink, white, red etc. The display of this camera is great as it offers vibrant colors and a detailed crystal clear preview of images taken from the camera. The size of the display screen is 2.7 inches which is a wee bit small when compared to other cameras available in the market these days. However, it will surely assist you with a much crisper display of images, texts and videos of the camera. The zooming is decent to say the least with a 10 x optical zoom which gives you great detail. Using this camera also enables the user to record videos in High Definition (1080p HD) which is quite popular these days.

All in all, the Nikon Coolpix S6200 is an average camera that provides high quality images because of the 16 mega pixel camera and also delivers pleasing video recording. So for people, and particularly photographers, who are looking to buy a camera for some great photography, the Nikon Coolpix S6200 should definitely be in the list.

Fujifilm rank among some of the best producers of cameras and electronics items in the world. There are numerous cameras available in the market today that were designed in the labs of Fujifilm and many of them have gained critical acclaim. The main feature of Fujifilm cameras is the Super Zoom feature. Fujifilm is the undisputed champion when it comes to producing the best zoom cameras. FUJIFILM FINEPIX S3200 is one such camera that is the focus of this review:

FUJIFILM FINEPIX S3200 Review 150x150 FUJIFILM FINEPIX S3200 Review

FUJIFILM FINEPIX S3200 Review

Although not the best of Fujifilm’s products, the FUJIFILM FINEPIX S3200 is a camera loaded with a lot of interesting features for all the entry level and amateur photographers out there. The build and design is not very different from the other camera products designed by Fujifilm. The camera has a high resolution LCD screen measuring 3 inch in size. The display is good with decent shades, good contrast levels, nice backlighting and vibrant colors.

Finepix S3200 has a 14 mega pixel camera which, in my opinion, takes great quality pictures even when your hand is a bit jerky and unstable. The camera is equipped with an optical lens that offers 24 times zooming. The super zoom feature of this camera is probably the feature that impressed me the most.

Other than the exceptional image capturing capabilities of the Finepix S3200, video recording is another thing that is bound to leave you mesmerized. The camera has the capability to record videos in full HD resolution of 1080p. Recorded videos are crystal clear with high pixel density and amazing detail even in lower light conditions.

The one feature about this state-of-the-art camera that impressed me the most is that it can record videos in ultra slow-motion at an amazing 240 frames per second. This allows you to capture some really interesting videos that are sure to help you in gaining acclaim as a good photographer.

Other features of the camera, which I appreciated and liked, were Smile detection (the camera detects and takes images when the person in view is smiling), Blink detection (avoids taking pictures when the eyes of the person, in view, are closed), Face recognition (detects the face of people and takes pictures accordingly), Image stabilization and few other features too.

In conclusion, since I am an amateur photographer myself, I would say that this camera is brilliant and provides above average results for pictures and videos. Therefore, I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of stepping into the field of photography.

The 12 megapixel ultra-resolution camera captures stunning detail in images with crisp resolution. The colors are rich and realistic but betray a negligible tinge of over-saturation. It is not that big a deal though as viewing images on an LCD screen will already liven up the colors.

Other noticeable features that greatly enhance camera quality are High Dynamic series that offers custom settings for a more professional and artistic finish to your pictures. The 30-times optical zoom is great for landscape photography.

Panoramic view is great for stitching photos together when you are short of room to maneuver and the integrated stitching algorithm captures 180-degree worth of detail. The noise reduction algorithm works splendidly in low-light conditions to prevent any image degradation and white noise.

The integrated xenon flash kicks in when required to capture exceptional details even with low ambient-lighting. Macro shots will really captivate you as the 12 megapixel camera effortlessly captures even the most intricate details and patterns.

The camera is loaded with extra features that make photography an absolute pleasure. Here are some of the main features that affect image quality:

  • Artistic effects
  • Dramatic
  • HDR (high dynamic range)
  • Low-light extended exposure
  • Smart portrait

The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T110 is a fantastic little camera, and I mean little camera. It’s slim, unobtrusive, sleek, and is a little beauty! It’s a 16.1 megapixel camera with 4x optical zoom. I love cameras like this one that has the lens enclosed within the body of the camera. It’s very useful for accident prone folks (like me) who can sometimes bump the lens on your subject when taking close ups.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T110 Review

The 3.0 lcd touchscreen is easy to use, and it’s quite responsive too. The intelligent auto works well and seems to choose the right mode to shoot in most of the time. I like the sweep panorama mode, which simply lets you move the camera from left to right while holding the shutter. Once you let it go, it will automatically stitch the photos together.

You can shoot video in 720p HD, and the results are pretty impressive for such a small camera.

Something else which is a good idea for newbies is the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T110 has in camera instructions to help you take the best shot possible. There’s lots of other cool little features that are too many to mention.

The best aspect of the camera though, has to be the size. It’s very slim, allowing you to easily take it with you where ever that might be. You can easily carry it in a purse or pocket, and when I had it in my front jeans pocket, it didn’t feel any more obtrusive than a cell phone.

So what do I think?

If you’re after a camera that’s easy to use, will take beautiful shots every time, and is a cinch to carry, then the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T110 is definitely for you. I could easily make this my every day camera, it’s that good.

I know, I know, at the time I’m writing this, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 isn’t under 200 dollars, but it’s pretty darn close, and I was so happy with it I had to include it in my round of reviews.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 is another example of the compact megazooms we’re getting more accustomed to seeing nowadays. It features a massive 16x optical zoom, and 14.1 megapixel resolution. Image quality is excellent although it’s not as good as some cameras in very low light.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 Review

I found it to be quite fast from shot to shot, so if you’re into sports photography, or, just like to get impromptu shots of the kids, or pets, then this camera will fit the bill nicely. The 3.0 inch lcd screen is nice and clear, and the intelligent auto function works superbly. You can also set it to manual mode and adjust aperture and other settings, but, for the most part, you’ll get excellent results by simply leaving it in auto.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 will shoot video in 720p, and the quality is pretty good. Battery life is excellent, you should be able to acheive more than 280 shots. I got 281 on the very first charge.

The image stabilization works extremely well, as some magezoom cameras get give you blurry photos when you zoom all the way in.

So what do I think?

It’s a brilliant compact megazoom, it takes stunning photos, and it’s size is convenient too. Panasonic have a tremendous reputation for their cameras and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 is no exception.

Ok, I know, this isn’t under 200 dollars at the time of writing, but I found this one intriguing enough to include it. It probably won’t be long before it’s offered for under 200 dollars somewhere though.

The Samsung ST100 is a 14.2 megapixel camera with 5x optical zoom, that will appeal to those of you that like to take photos of either yourself or you along with a friend or three. How is this different to any camera? It has two lcd screens! That’s right, it has a traditional (massive) 3.5 inch touchscreen at the back, and a smaller 1.8 inch lcd on the front.

Samsung ST100 Review Samsung ST100 Review

Samsung ST100 Review

When you tap the front of the camera, (or press the button on top) the front lcd screen is activated. Then, you can see yourself and hit the button. It even allows you to set the camera to detect smiles and will automatically take the photo. That’s a cool feature if you’re finding it difficult to shoot that “perfect” self shot photo.

One glaring issue with the camera is the battery life, I got around 130 shots before the battery died, so a spare battery is a must with this one.

It shoots video at 720p and you can use the 5x optical zoom whilst filming, which is always a bonus. The video and photo quality are excellent, and the unobtrusive design is nice too. There’s no lens protruding out that could get accidentally bumped.

Something that will appeal to parents of youngsters (like I am, a parent that is) is the function that displays a little cartoon animation on the front screen that is a nice little distraction for the littlies that gives you just enough time to get a shot of them actually looking at the camera. I can’t tell you how many times I tried to get my now 6 year old son to look at me when I wanted to get a quick shot away. The front screen even displays a count-down timer when you use the timer function.

This is a Samsung ST100 Review

For the latest pricing, or for technical specs, please visit Amazon.

So what do I think? I really like this camera, apart from the disappointing battery output, the Samsung ST100 offers some really useful advantages over traditional one screen cameras. The image quality is excellent, and the nifty automatic face/smile detection is very good when utilizing the front screen to take self portraits or couple shots. I give this one a definite two thumbs up!

Thanks for checking out my Samsung ST100 Review, I hope it helps you make the right decision.

The Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 is one touch piece of tech. I really like this camera. It can be slow if you leave it in its default state. For example, it will show you the last photo you took before allowing you to take another, but, when you disable this function, it’s as rapid as any camera I’ve ever tested.

Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 Review 150x150 Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 Review

Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 Review

The 14 megapixel resolution delivers stunning results, and the 5x optical zoom works well. I like the tough cameras because they don’t have the obtrusive lens coming out of the body, which means you can get really close to your subject. It’s waterproof to 16 feet, so if you’re into water sports, or like the idea of taking pictures of the family at the beach, then this is definitely the camera for you.

It will shoot video at 720p and I found the quality to be very good. Battery life is a reasonable 200 shots, although if you like shooting lots of photos, or are going to be using this camera whilst camping, then a second battery will be a good idea.

The 2.7 inch anti glare screen works really well in sunny conditions, which you’ll appreciate if you like taking shots outside (even in snow).

This is the camera for you if you want to shoot in low light. It performs remarkably so remarkably in low light that this was the feature that stood out for me first and foremost. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V also includes Sony’s transferjet technology which in simple terms, means you can transfer photos to transferjet enabled devices without the need to plug in cables.

Controls are straight forward and as I always say, the auto function delivers very good results in both video and still images.

The battery is good for around 230 shots which is quite good given the features of this camera.

The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W560 is a terrific go anywhere ultra compact. It boasts 14.1 megapixels, and a generous 3 inch lcd screen. The image quality from this camera is terrific. It takes great images in all situations. The auto mode is no fuss, and I found it works very well in that it chooses the right scene to shoot most of the time.

It also takes 720p HD video, and it allows you to use the 4x optical zoom while shooting – a huge plus for a camera in this price bracket. The steady shot image stabilization works fantastically, as I tested it out in the yard while shooting images of my two pointer cross dogs. I also like the sweep panorama shooting.

For beginners, there’s a mode that Sony calls easy shooting mode. When using this mode, the camera reverts to all auto, and gives you handy little pointers and I really think this would be useful to someone that may not yet have used a digital camera because they’re a little intimidated by all the bells and whistles that they have nowadays.

When I tested the camera, it gave me around 200 photos plus a few short videos, which isn’t too bad for a camera in this price range.

So what do I think?

This is a perfect example of what you’d want an ultra compact digital camera to be. Simple, light-weight, easy to use, and best of all, it takes beautiful photos. I would have no hesitation in using a camera of this quality as an everyday camera. If you bought this one, you definitely won’t be disappointed.
